All Charged Up (Coach Cosentine): Calling all Einstein fans! This is a knowledge event that where teams will visit stations based on their expertise on magnets, magnetism, electricity, circuits, positive/negative charges, and how a light bulb works!
Backyard Biologist (Coach Storck): This is a knowledge event where teams will focus on living organisms in your own backyard! You will focus on identifying habitats and the lives of plants, trees, and birds!
Describe It, Build It (Coach Alkins): Communication is key in this event where teams will write a description on how to build a device and have your partner construct it based on your instructions!
Ecology Expert (Coach Storck): This is a knowledge event focusing on the forest, desert, and grassland biomes! In each biome, you will become an expert in the interactions of the living and nonliving things within them!
STEM Design Challenge (All Coaches): Teams will create a blueprint designing a tool for a specific function using only Knex pieces!
Trajeggtory (Coach Alkins): Teams will design the lightest device to protect a raw egg when thrown a specific distance toward a target!
Chew the Fat (Coach Alkins): Teams will demonstrate their knowledge of the human digestive system and nutrition!
Data Crunchers (Coach Sieracki): Teams will become experts at collecting and interpreting scientific data! The focus will be on calculations, measurements, the use of measurement tools, and the organization of data!
First in Flight (Coach Cosentine): Teams will create a design for a paper airplane for a specific purpose (longest distance, or longest time aloft).
Rock Star (Coach Storck): Teams will demonstrate their knowledge of minerals, rocks, and the rock cycle! The focus will be on minerals and rocks in NC.
Super Sleuths (Coach Cosentine): Calling all detectives! Teams will solve a mystery based on chemical and physical evidence as well as analysis of the crime scene!
Weather Permitting (Coach Storck): Teams will demonstrate their knowledge of weather, climate, and use of weather tools!
Pasta Tower (Coach Sieracki): Teams will design and construct the lightest tower that has the highest structural efficiency (can hold the most weight) using only pasta noodles and glue!
Fast Facts (Coach Sieracki): Teams will compete in a relay race on all Science Olympiad topics!
Planet Protectors (Coach Sieracki): Teams will demonstrate their knowledge of environmental issues, recycling, renewable/nonrenewable resources, pollution, and environment management.
Science Password (Coach Sieracki): Teams will take turns giving verbal cues to guess scientific terms or concepts!
Sky Quest (Coach Cosentine): Teams will demonstrate their knowledge of the solar system, sun, moon, planets, moon phases, seasons, and constellations!
